L’Histoire n’est qu’une série de dominations orchestrées par une minorité au détriment d’une vaste majorité. A chaque étape, à chaque période, un alibi, une justification, avec une profusion de textes et d’images, de discours officiels pour présenter cette nouvelle domination comme annonciatrice d’un « ordre nouveau » relevant lui-même d’un « ordre naturel ». L’ordre naturel de Dieu. Aujourd’hui, les puissances naturelles se dénomment « les forces du marché » : des forces qui, selon la doxa officielle et médiatique, seraient toutes puissantes.

Le racisme, les théories au sujet de la supériorité des « races », les doutes sur l’humanité de certains peuples ont été la justification et l’alibi de l’esclavage pendant des siècles. Des « mystifications fondatrices », pour ainsi dire. Aujourd’hui, la mondialisation libérale a également besoin de mystifications pour cacher l’évidence de sa réalité : elle est une machine à broyer, à casser les rêves et les aspirations, à standardiser les hommes et les transformer en pions d’un gigantesque jeu d’échec dont ils ne maîtrisent pas les règles. Une machine qui enracine les pays du Sud dans un sous-développement et une pauvreté chroniques.

Les mystifications modernes, déguisées en « évidences fondamentales », font appel à des images, à des médias, à des formes coercitives ou incitatives pour faire accepter l’inacceptable. Mais les dominations se construisent sur des bases multiples, avec leurs propres contradictions. Il n’y a pas de complot de la domination. Dans ces contradictions, dans les interstices, les fissures, il y a lieu et possibilité de s’interroger et d’agir : face aux vérités imposées, devons-nous rester bouche bée et constater notre impuissance ? Ou n’est-il pas plutôt de notre devoir d’essayer de désigner, décrypter, dénoncer la mystification sous toutes ses formes ? Pour mieux comprendre le passé, certes, mais également pour tenter de mieux comprendre notre présent, clé de notre avenir.

Ce livre résulte de ces interrogations. Il est un questionnement en images et en textes ; les premières n’illustrant pas les seconds, et les seconds ne décrivant pas les premières. Cet ouvrage pose donc des questions, mais n’apporte pas de réponses. Le lecteur pourra s‘interroger : pourquoi ce texte dans cette image ? Ou cette image avec ce texte ? Que signifient ces décalages ? Que veut-on nous dire ? Ce sera alors à lui, ici, d’alimenter sa propre réflexion. De décrypter les impostures. De lutter contre la domination.

History consists of successive periods of domination exercised by a minority at the expense of the majority. Each period finds its alibi or justification in an abundance of texts, images and official discourses presenting it as the harbinger of a ’new order’, the ‘natural order’ of things. At times, it was the natural order of God. Today, the natural order is called the ‘market forces’, which, according to the dogma of officialdom and the media, are all powerful.

Racism - the theories surrounding the superiority of certain ‘races’, the doubting of the humanity of certain populations - was for centuries the justification and the alibi for slavery. What could be called its ‘founding mystification’. Today, liberal globalisation equally needs its mystification to disguise the truth : that it is a machine to crush and shatter dreams and aspirations, to homogenise man using him as a pawn in a game, in which he does not control the rules ; a machine, too, entrenching the countries of the South in chronic under-development and poverty.

These modern myths, masquerading as ’fundamental evidence’, employ images, the media and other means of coercion or incentive to render acceptable the unacceptable. But domination is a complex phenomenon bearing the seeds of its own contradictions. Domination does not have a plot. Within the chinks and clefts of its contradictions, there is the potential to reflect and act... Confronted with imposed truths, should we simply stand open-mouthed avowing our powerlessness ? Is it not our duty to attempt to designate, decrypt and denounce these myths in all their forms ? By better understanding the past we can better understand the present, the key to the future.

This book is a result of these interrogations, posed in images and texts ; but the images don’t illustrate the texts, and the texts are far from describing the images. This work asks questions but does not provide answers. Readers may ask : why these words in that image ? Or this image with that text ? Why all these seeming contradictions ? What is the author trying to say ? It is up to each reader to form his or her own impressions, to decipher the impostures ; to say no to domination.
